Kimochis Review

Kimochis are toys with feelings inside and were created to to assist in parent-child communication and help in building social and emotional intelligence, as well as self-esteem in children. Kimochi (Key.Mo.Chee) means “feeling” in Japanese and the new line of plush characters comes equipped with 3 plush feelings and a Feel Guide. The idea behind Kimochis is that kids can get in touch with their emotions with puppetry and play. Kimochis allow children to communicate with a parent or caregiver in a way that deflects their emotions away from themselves and focuses these feelings on a Kimochi. This allows children to feel more comfortable when sharing their feelings.I received Kimochis Huggtopus with a mixed feeling pack. Both my little ones just love her. I have been teaching my 2 1/2 yr old how to use it. She still working on it. I love the fact that they have pictures on the front so since my little one can't read yet she can determine the feeling she is having by the picture. Also, in the mixed feeling pack they give you one blank feeling that you can write whatever you want on.
The Kimochis are what come inside each character. They are small pillows with feeling on one side and a corresponding facial expression on the other. The facial expressions allow for children to quickly identify the emotion and place it inside each character's pocket. Additional feeling packs can be purchased separately.

Here is how it works:

1. Child has a feeling.
2. Child can identify and express their feelings by choosing a plush emotion and placing it into the front pocket of the Kimochi.
3. Parent can reach inside, pull out the feeling and talk about it with their child.

The feeling guide gives parents some really great ideas on how to communicate with their child and offers ideas such as games you can play with your Kimochi. That way children can become comfortable with the Kimochi. This will assist both parent and child later when a “feeling” arises.

Each character has its own and very distinctive personality. One character may identify more with your child than others. For instance Kimochi Huggtopus is very affectionate and strong and sometimes gets a little carried away by her big friendly personality. She would be perfect for someone that is a little overbearing.  Kimochi Huggtopus comes with Happy, Silly and Fustrated feelings.

Feelings should be as quick and painless as this process. This toy teaches children it's okay to have feelings and it is important to share them. Of course it teaches how to express them in a right way. These toys are cute and cuddly as my little ones just love Huggtopus! I would so recommend these as a great way to talk to your child about feelings!
