Yummy Sourdough Bread Recipe!

I love baking especially during the winter as it really helps warm the house up and I don't have to turn on the heater. So, last week I decided to make a sourdough starter. I was kind of skeptical as last time I made sourdough bread it turned out horrible.

But this time I used a different recipe and starter. It turned out melt in your mouth delicious! I mean the bread was like eating air. I can't get over how good it is. I was trying to test it out as I was making it to use for our sandwiches Friday as we are going out of town to a Youth Rally. I wanted some really awesome sandwiches. Well, I know now! I will be making more for tomorrow!

The recipe says it makes 2 loaves but as you see I ended up with 3.

Country Crust Sourdough

2 (1/4 oz) envelopes active dry yeast
1 1/4 cups warm water (100 to 110 degrees)
1 cup Sourdough Starter (at room temperature)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
2 tsp salt
2 large eggs, beaten
5 1/2 to 6 cups unbleached all purpose flour
Vegetable oil
Butter or margarine, melted

Combine yeast and warm water in a 2-cup liquid measuring cup; let stand for 5 minutes.
Combine yeast mixture, Sourdough Starter, 1/4 cup oil, sugar, salt, eggs, and 3 cups flour in a nonmetal bowl. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead until smooth and elastic (8 to 10 minutes). Place in a well-greased bowl turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place, free of drafts, 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until doubled in bulk.
Punch dough down, and divide in half; place on a floured surface. Roll each half into an 18-x 9-inch rectangle. Tightly roll up dough, starting at narrow side; pinch seam and ends together to seal. place loaves seam side down, in 2 greased 9-x5-inch loafpans. Brush tops with oil. Cover and rise in a warm place, free from drafts about 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
Bake at 375 for 30 to 35 minutes or until loaves sound hollow when tapped. Remove from loaves from pans; brush with melted butter.

I promise this recipes is so yummy. The thing that took the longest was getting my starter started it takes 3 days. But so worth the wait.

Do you have a favorite bread recipe? If so please share. I love making bread and am always looking for yummy recipes.
